Responsible for design and creation of 3d models and 2d detail drawings using CAD software like Solidworks, apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T) techniques, design for manufacturing and design for assembly techniques in the product design. Perform and validate thermal and structural analysis (computational fluid dynamics, finite element analysis) on parts and assemblies. Collect photometric and optical data to optimize light output of the fixture. Generate necessary drawings and bill of materials for mechanical and opto-mechanical assemblies. Collaborate with domestic as well as overseas suppliers and contract manufacturers to develop new designs and update current designs. Research new materials, processes and aggressive technologies to meet product goals and improve that improve the performance and cost of led light fixtures. assist in project planning and provide mechanical design leadership in project execution. Participate in or support the following product development activities: concept, planning, design and execution stages of major new product designs projects or current product offering enhancement projects to meet the needs of a changing market or to make the product easier to manufacture at a lower cost. Estimate time, costs and requirements of product development projects. research design options and perform experiments thru low cost mock ups and prototyping to determine potential design feasibility. Interact with internal design, engineering and manufacturing resources to design for manufacturability, reliability and cost effectiveness. Maintain accurate timeline and manage organized product information processes, including all material documentation and consistent project reporting for all design or redesign projects. In team with product manager continuously review product documentation for accuracy including UL/ETL and IES documentation as well as documentation intended for customer use. Proactively engage in identifying technical market trends and awareness in the fields of optics and led efficiency & efficacy and implementing trends and innovation into ALW’s product offering.
